Queen Anne Porringer Table
(Previous | Next)

The evolution of this style of table is somewhat clouded. The exaggerated rounded corners are said to be reminiscent of the shape of the handles on porridge bowls commonly used to feed children in the eighteenth century. It is an elegant piece and can be used as an accent or the focus of a living room. Among the gentry it was used often for tea service. The originals were smallish and stood only about 26 inches, for they were meant to be moved easily. The example Is taller, to be used in a hall, and a bit larger to accommodate the large tile supplied by the customer.
The wood is cherry.
