	Alfred Side Table (Previous | Next)   This is possibly the quintessential Shaker piece; identifiable as Shaker by more people than any other furniture type. The name derives from the Alfred, Maine, Shaker Community where the original was made. The Shaker talent for adapting worldly styles to their simpler tastes can be seen in the gracefully tapering legs inspired by the designs of George Hepplewhite. This is a remarkably strong and sturdy design despite its delicate appearance (see Contact Us).
