Settle Bench
(Previous | Next)

Settle benches today are usually found on the front porch or the mudroom for the storage of boots and winter wear. Historically they are among the earliest of household furnishings. They were sometimes quite ornate with frame and panel construction and elaborately scroll-cut wide sideboards. They were used in front of the hearth where the deep back trapped the heat and shielded the occupant from drafts. Much the same idea found in later New England wing chairs. Our vision has a tall back with pegs for coats and a lidded seat for boots. The box on the side is for gloves. If you wish we can design one to match your vision.
