Beds
(Previous | Next)
Our beds are made and priced for standard size mattresses,
Twin 38x75, Double 53x75, Queen 60x80, King 76x80. Beds are
made in the 18th Century style with massive side rails,
almost 3x4 inches square, set high, 16-18 inches to the
bottom, off of the floor. In olden times this kept the floor
drafts off the sleepers while today it provides a place for
our dogs to sleep. Rope springs that can be woven around the
rails in a number of ways for different looks support the
mattress. If, however, you want a conventional box spring
and mattress arrangement we will be happy to accommodate
you.
The following pages show some of our bed offerings. The most
common request is for pencil post beds but we offer other
styles: low post in Shaker and cannonball styles, medium and
tall turned post styles from the Colonial and Early American
periods. Soon we will be offering a medium and a tall post
styles from the Empire period. These are being copied from
some of our restoration client's beds.
Our beds are constructed with mortise and tenon joints at
the rails and posts. These are secured with machine bolts
through the posts and captured nuts in the rails. It is a
solid, time-tested, mechanical attachment guaranteed to
withstand generations of use.
The headboards shown are the most popular but if you have a
design in mind we will be glad to use it.
